Introducing Greg Wilson!

Greg Wilson is an Assistant-Professor at UofT’s Department of Computer Science. But don’t let the title fool you — this keynote won’t be your average lecture.

Some of you may already be familiar with him through his blog about software his Canada-wide open source project, or the book he co-edited, Beautiful Code.

You may have also heard about his talk at the recent Stackoverflow Devdays which some described as the “highlight of the event.”

Joey DeVilla summarized the message:

Greg challenged us to weed out the false or faulty maxims based on poor or no research that are now an accepted part of programming practices, find out what we really know about the practice of software development, and do our best to expand what we do know about programming, with research and rigor, not anecdotes and assumptions.

Greg spoke at CUSEC 2005 as an academic speaker. Generally, we try not to repeat speakers but because 1) very few of you attended CUSEC 2005 2) his message is so important, we decided to invite him back for CUSEC 2010. We’re thrilled he accepted the offer.

Between now and January, you can digest the entries on his blog, follow the discussion around his DevDays talk (come with questions!), or read his children’s book if you have extra time.
